Position: Controller Sault Tribe, Inc. (STI), began work in 2020, created by the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians as the independent business arm of the Tribe. Our mission is to enhance the economy and improve the quality of life for the members of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. STI will achieve this mission through growing our business, particularly in Federal contracting through our STI Federal brand. Job Description: Purpose: The Controller will further STI’s mission and support STI in achieving our financial goals through both hands-on and strategic accounting and finance duties to ensure the integrity and compliance of our accounting and finance functions. As an early stage hire in our business, the Controller will support in all levels of accounting and financial duties. The Controller must support in additional areas, as needed, such as contracts management, procurement, proposals, pricing, financial IT, etc. Key Outcomes: Cash Flow - Manage all financial transactions and optimize AR/AP to maintain a stable cash flow. Maximize company investments. GovCon Auditable Accounting – Manage, train staff, and continuously improve a unified accounting system, policies, and procedures for STI and its subsidiaries, using Deltek Costpoint and ADP, to ensure required compliance as a government contractor and optimize business processes. Coordinate activities of external auditors. Financial Reporting – Track, analyze and report on financial activity to deliver timely and accurate information including budgets, planning, and required filings and reports. Growth & Profitability – Conceptualize, develop, communicate and propose financial solutions that will drive growth and lead directly to top and bottom-line results without compromising culture or quality. Develop budgets, forecasts, forward pricing and other financial analysis to support project and company level strategy. Hiring & Performance Management – Hire high-performance team as needed to support growth of multiple businesses and manage this team to achieve timely completion of quality services and deliverables, support positive culture to minimize turnover, and actively build networks to quickly fill any open positions. Team player – Provide responsive support across STI proactively and on request. Required Qualifications and Knowledge: Bachelor of Science degree in finance or accounting is required; certified public accountant (CPA) or certified internal auditor (CIA) strongly preferred. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Must have strong knowledge of Government contracting.
Working Conditions: Confidentiality Required. General office or remote work environment. Position requires mobility and prolonged sitting and standing; requires flexible working hours. Travel could be required up to 25%. Compensation: $160,000 – $185,000 salary is available for the right candidate.
