Sr. Human Resource Specialist (SHRS)

SUMMARY 
Sault Tribe Incorporated (STI), established in 2020, is hiring a Sr. Human Resource Specialist to oversee Human Resources for STI and its subsidiaries. STI is wholly owned by the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians as a Federally chartered entity, created to benefit tribal members through job creation and assistance programs through private enterprise. As the solo HR team member in this early-stage company, the SHRS will run the daily functions of the Human Resource department; the SHRS will be critical to furthering this mission by:
 
  • Establishing an HR Program. Improve and implement HR policies and procedures that are best practice for the organization and our staff.
  • Implement HRIS. Implement an HRIS for STI and its subsidiary companies that will integrate with accounting and other systems for more streamlined use.
  • Performance Management. Use available research to implement and train on the most effective performance management program. Implement strategies to minimize turnover.  
  • Recruiting and onboarding. Support recruiting efforts to bring on candidates that will be successful in their roles through supporting development of job scorecard, structured interview practices, conducting candidate screenings and/or interviews. Make onboarding a positive experience for our candidates.
  • Benefits. Offer our employees the best benefits we can within budget and manage benefit costs. Oversee benefits programs including professional development and training as well as more traditional health benefits and make continuous improvements.
  • Strategic. Supporting organizational strategy and decision-making.
 
The SHRS will have the ability to develop a team and increase their level of responsibility depending on company growth and their performance.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
 
  • Recruits, sets interviews, and facilitates the onboarding of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Assists Administration in the development of Job Descriptions and posts all positions using specified media for the position.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITESAll assigned resources and personnel.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in HR Management required.
  • SHRM-CP a plus but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. 
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Must be able to travel for the purpose of, but not limited to, performing critical duties, attending conferences and trainings.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • SHRM-CP a plus but not required.

Sault Tribe Member preferred.
